For our encouragement from God’s Word today please read Matthew 27: 26-31.
Beginning today & continuing until Easter we will be meditating on Scripture passages that tell the story of Jesus as He approached Calvary & the Tomb. Today we look at the Gospel of Matthew chapter 27. In verses 26-31 we are told about how Jesus was treated just before He was led away to the Cross. Jesus was scourged with a whip, crowned with thorns, spit upon & derisively mocked. It wasn’t until He had already suffered all of this physical & mental torture that He went to Mt Calvary to die.
Our hearts should break when we think about all that Jesus suffered – even before He was nailed to the Cross – for us. The horrible beatings & wicked mockery should have been ours to bear. Yet, Jesus gladly took our punishment as our Sin Substitute. He paid a debt we couldn’t pay! He paid a debt He didn’t owe! He paid it ALL for you & me.
APPLICATION: How has God spoken to you through His Word today? How will you apply these truths to your life?
